BL0

BL0 is the postal code for the popular market town of Ramsbottom in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury also covering Edenfield, Shuttleworth and Stubbins on the River Irwell in the West Pennine Moors approximately 4 miles from Bury and 12 miles from Manchester. Cardwells have been selling and renting property in the BL0 area since 1982 and offer a professional Estate Agency service to both sellers and landlords. The BL0 area is extremely popular due to the excellent range of shops and facilities on offer and at Cardwells we always find there is a strong demand for all types of property in the area. The BL0 skyline is dominated by the Peel Monument which stands on Holcombe Moor reaching a height of 128ft and offers spectacular views of West Yorkshire, North Lancashire and on a clear day it’s possible to see Blackpool Tower. For selling, renting and buying in the BL0 area call Cardwells Estate Agents first. Ramsbottom developed during the 19th century as a manufacturing and mill town on the road from Bury to Haslingden by the River Irwell and is part of the Bury North constituency which was created in 1983 from parts of the former seats of the former Rossendale and Bury/Radcliffe constituencies. The railway arrived in Ramsbottom in 1846 when the Manchester, Bury and Rossendale Railway Company built the railway from Bury to a junction with Manchester which was then extended northwards to Rawtenstall and a station was opened in the town centre. Today the line is a popular tourist attraction operated by the East Lancashire Railway. Ramsbottom is a vibrant market town where there is plenty going on, whether it be the annual Black Pudding Throwing World Championships, the Rhythm and Blues Festival or watching a game of cricket or Ramsbottom United F.C. There is also a fabulous range of shops, supermarkets and restaurants to choose from. Cardwells sell and rent properties of all types and styles in the BL0 area and if you are considering making a move then we are the ideal Estate Agents to choose.

OTHER RESIDENTIAL AREAS OF BL0

Holcombe  & Holcombe Brook

One of Bury’s villages, Holcombe, is located on the hillside of Holcombe Moor less than half a mile west of Ramsbottom and less than 5 miles north of Bury. Holcombe Brook, located at the junction of Bolton Road, Bolton Road West and Longsight Road is an associated village and they share a number of amenities as well as the BL9 postcode. Holcombe and Holcombe Brook boast a fantastic range of properties. At the top of Holcombe Village, the prospective buyer will generally find red brick terraces similar to those found in Ramsbottom but the descent from the hill into Holcombe Brook shows a change in demographic from the traditional 1900’s terraced homes to period bay fronted semi detached properties lining the wide roads towards Bury. Off the main roads, ‘60’s and ‘70’s semi and detached houses are found, grouped around ‘pockets’ of cottages reminiscent of times gone by. The areas are served by primary schools including Holcombe Brook Primary School and Hazelhurst Community Primary School. As Holcombe and Holcombe Brook are only small villages, there is no immediate high school or college with most 11-16 year olds commuting into Bury for the grammar school, or Tottington High School and Woodhey High School at Ramsbottom. Travelling to Bury and the surrounding areas from Holcombe is easy. Main roads bring the commuter directly to Bury Town Centre, whilst a short drive through Ramsbottom will bring you to the M66, from which Lancashire (to the north) and the Manchester Ring Road and M62 (to the south) are very easily accessible. There is also the main road that will bring you to north eastern Bolton and provide alternative routes into Bury. Within Holcombe and Holcombe Brook there are several amenities, such as the ‘Co-op’ and an independent bakery, amongst others, on the small parade in Holcombe Brook. The majority of attractions to the area are within Ramsbottom town, which is less than one mile away, including a number of small retailers, two supermarket chains and a wide range of pubs and bars.

Edenfield

Edenfield is a popular village north of Bury within the Rossendale borough and lies at the intersection of three A-roads approximately 1.25miles from Ramsbottom with excellent motorway connections to neighbouring towns and cities including Bury, Burnley, Blackburn and Preston. Cardwells have been proudly selling and renting houses in Edenfield since 1982. The village has gradually expanded over the years with various housing developments having been built since the 1970’s although for those buyers in search of a little more character period homes are readily available particularly along the main thoroughfare Market Street where there are a number of shops including bakers, post office and newsagent. The village is also home to Edenfield Cricket Club, a recreation ground on Exchange Street which is used by a number of football teams of varying ages, with a Community Centre alongside and a Primary School.

Stubbins

Stubbins lies about a mile from Ramsbottom roughly between Edenfield and Bolton. Stubbins can trace its long history back to the Middle Ages when it was used as farming land, however the area really came into its own with the advent of the industrial revolution. Moving into the industrial age Stubbins became home to the Calico Printworks and grew with the building of rows of terraces for the incoming workers. These terraces are now among the reasons Cardwells have so many enquiries for properties for sale and properties to let in Stubbins. Stubbins Primary School with its motto ‘Learning & Growing Together’ is popular amongst local parents. As it is such a small village it just has the one take away Stubbins Tandoori, however, there are many more amenities in nearby Edenfield. Edenfield is also an area where Cardwells get many enquiries for properties to rent or properties to buy as it is such a lovely village. There is the delightful gastropub “the Coach at Edenfield”, and the classically French-influenced “Nutters Restaurant”.
