About Walshaw Bury
Located to the North West of, and approximately 2 miles away from, Bury Town Centre and approximately 14 miles North of Manchester City Centre, is Walshaw, falling under the BL8 postcode.
Walshaw, Bury is not by any means steeped in a rich and full history. The recent swing in preference of buyers to live in semi-rural areas that has been experienced in the 20th-21st centuries has influenced Walshaw to turn from a hamlet on the outskirts of Bury, into a peaceful village enjoying excellent schools, new stone-built detached homes combined with the more quaint stone cottages of old.
The area is served primarily by one primary school in Christ Church which is linked to the Anglican Church nearby. There are other primary schools in surrounding areas, including Lowercroft Primary. There are no secondary schools within Walshaw, but Tottington High School and Elton High School are both within 1 mile and 0.5 miles respectively.
Walshaw, Bury is also served by very strong transport links. Despite the nearest motorway being the M66 on the opposite side of Bury, travelling about the area is made much easier by effective A-road links to Bury, Bolton and everywhere in between, and the Metrolink is available from Bury Interchange into Manchester City Centre and surrounding areas. Past clients living in Walshaw have found Bury Interchange to be a comfortable walk away, rather than using the bus service, which is also more than adequate for getting around Bury.
A key attraction, bringing people to live in and visit Walshaw, is Bolholt Country Park surrounding the 3-star Bolholt Country Park Hotel. An idyllic place for walkers and picnickers, there are also gym facilities, a lake and beautifully landscaped gardens. Further afield through Walshaw, Lowercroft Reservoirs are very close, and a short drive up Bradshaw Road will bring you out near Affetside and with excellent views over Greater Manchester.
Within the village the residents benefit from having access to local shops on Bank Street, as well as a restaurant. There are pubs in the surrounding areas but the majority of locals frequent the White Horse close to the centre of Walshaw. Some locals also get to enjoy their own produce from allotments at the back of High Street, at the edge of the farmer’s fields and in an open, south facing aspect.
