About Seddon’s Farm, Bury
Seddon’s Farm is a highly popular residential area within Bury, approximately 2 miles west of Bury Town Centre, and about 11 miles from Manchester City Centre, in the BL8 postcode area.
This beautiful and in demand estate had its first housing phases built post-war, as demonstrated by the period semi-detached homes on the eastern side of the area, and over the succeeding 20-30 years, was expanded massively to provide extensive housing for a range of people, with equally varying requirements and specifications for their ideal home.
To demonstrate this, we would encourage a drive down Watling Street, one of the principle roads in the estate. All that is to be appreciated in Seddon’s Farm can be seen from this road, and there will often be a Cardwells For Sale board on show too!
Watling Street in Seddon’s Farm is, as Bury locals know well, a modern continuation of the line of the pre-existing Watling Street on Holcombe Moor, the ancient roman road. Along the wide street, there are detached and semi-detached bungalows and houses; small, quiet cul-de-sacs; and side streets with shops, such as an independent butchers, doctor and dentist practices, and one of two primary schools in the area.
These are, namely, Greenhill Primary School and St Stephens CE Primary School. There are also nearby, Lowercroft Primary and Chantler’s Primary. There are no immediate Secondary schools in Seddon’s Farm, with most teenagers going to Tottington, Elton or Woodhey High Schools, or Bury Grammar Schools, so there is still a variety of popular and reputable schools to choose from.
Being situated between Ainsworth Road and Bolton Road, Seddon’s Farm is fantastic for commuting. The aforementioned main roads provide access directly into Bury and Bolton, with Radcliffe not far away, and the motorway network accessible to the east and south of Bury/Radcliffe. Bury Interchange and Radcliffe Metrolink Station also provide public transport links in terms of regular bus services and Metrolink services around Greater Manchester.
As Seddon’s Farm, Bury is a residential location, as opposed to a village in its own rights, it is heavily dependent on the entirety of Bury for many public amenities and leisure facilities. There are, within the estate, some entertainment spaces, such as playgrounds, and nearby there are good walking locations, for example Elton Reservoir, but the best to be seen lies mostly in Bury Town Centre.
