Castlefield

An area between Deansgate and the River Irwell, retaining much of its character, now home to waterside bars and pubs.

Northern Quarter

Northwest of Piccadilly Gardens and the hub for alternate and bohemian culture in Manchester. Previously was the retail heart of the city until Manchester Arndale opened in the 1970’s. It is an area popular for shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.

Central Retail District

The Arndale Centre contains numerous shops and the area is also home to Manchester Cathedral, Exchange Square, Market Street and King Street where many large stores such as Harvey Nichols, Marks & Spencer, Selfridges and Next have opened. Deansgate is a short walk and the Printworks is a large facility containing an IMAX cinema, numerous bars, restaurants and Manchester’s first Hard Rock Cafe.

Spinningfields

Adjoining Deansgate, this area is noted for glazed, modern buildings, many of which are offices.  It’s also home to a number of high end retailers such as Armani and Mulberry and many popular restaurants and areas.

Piccadilly

The transport interchange of the centre with rail, tram and bus services all within 5 minutes walk, plus shops, restaurants and bars.

Peters Field

St Peters Square is at the top of Oxford Road and Peter Street and known for many important buildings such as Central Library, Midland Hotel and Manchester Town Hall.

China Town

South of Piccadilly Gardens with many oriental restaurants, it retains a far eastern feel since a paifang archway was installed as a gift to the Chinese community in 1987.

Canal Street

Often referred to as the Gay Village which runs along the Rochdale Canal. It contains many bars, clubs and other facilities. Manchester hosts the annual Gay Pride Festival.

Manchester City Centre has 2 historic theatres, The Palace Theatre and Manchester Opera House. It also houses Manchester Art Gallery, Peoples History Museum, Museum of Science & Industry and the National Football  Museum.

Railway Stations are located at Piccadilly, Victoria, Oxford Road and Deansgate. The main metrolink Stations are Piccadilly, Piccadilly Gardens, Deansgate, Market Street, Shudehill, St Peters Square and Victoria. There are extensive bus routes from Shudehill Interchange and Piccadilly Gardens bus station and National Express coaches to cities across the UK.
