Whitefield Estate Agents
Bordering Prestwich, Whitefield is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Bury to the south of the River Irwell, located approx 3 miles South East of Bury and around 5 miles to the North West of Manchester City Centre with Prestwich and the M60 motorway lying to the south of Whitefield. Local residents pay their council tax to Bury council and the postcode prefix for Whitefield is M45.
Historically, Whitefield was originally known for its Bleach Works and the Weaving Industry heritage that was at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution that was operating from a number of the mills that are still standing today. The urbanisation and development of Whitefield largely coincided with the Industrial Revolution. Although over the 20th century there was a great deal of residential and commercial property development which created a great deal of the residential and commercial property available today, some of these properties were built by successful builders like Richard Bradshaw.

The residential housing in Whitefield is mainly made up of 1930’s bay windowed semi-detached homes with some detached and also some older terraced housing too, especially around the Lily Hill Street area. Some of these terraced houses are thought to be the old mill workers cottages. There are some very grand detached houses in the Ringley Road area and some very large family homes just nearby to these around Park Lane. As Whitefield is not a very large area, there is not much room for development in the area, there are very few modern built homes. Sometimes we see older properties being demolished and new build properties being built instead.
If you are looking for something more modern in Whitefield then “Hillock” is the main area of Whitefield that can provide this type of home. As with many areas, house prices can differ greatly depending on the individual localities within the area, however, one thing you can always be sure on is that whichever part of Whitefield you choose to live in, you are never far away from the excellent local facilities on offer.

Now owned by Bury council, this was once home to the Philips family where around two thirds of the park area was their estate and the remaining third, known as Waterdale, is now owned by Irwell Valley following the demolition of two bleach and dye works. Some of the original buildings still remain such as the grade II listed North Lodge and conservatory. Vehicle access to the park is via gates from Philips Park road West and Park Lane although there are several other entrances via foot or bicycle.
