About Brandlesholme Bury
One of Bury’s several suburbs, Brandlesholme lies within the BL8 postcode boundaries, approximately 3 miles north of Bury and 12 miles north of Manchester.
Brandlesholme gets its name from the family who were employed by the crown to tend to the forests of Henry III and who resided in Brandlesholme Old Hall, a building that today is Grade II listed and lends its name to one of the local primary schools.
The children of the area usually attend one of three schools – Our Lady of Lourdes RC Primary, Old Hall Primary, or Woodbank Country Primary. For secondary schools, Brandlesholme is primarily served by one the schools in neighbouring areas, namely Tottington High, Woodhey High or Elton High. Bury Grammar schools are also within easy reach close to the town centre.
Getting into Bury is either a short drive or a hop onto the regular bus service. From Bury Interchange in the town centre, the metrolink and bus services provide reliable and frequent access to the vast majority of Greater Manchester. The motorway network is accessible via Ramsbottom to the M66, or via Rochdale Road at the next junction of the same motorway. From the M66 you can travel north into Lancashire, or south to join the major motorway links of M60 and M62.
The most notable public facility in Brandlesholme is Burrs Country Park, home to an excellent array of sculptures by some prominent artists such as David Kemp. Another highly popular attraction for families is the Wild Bird Sanctuary.
On the main road in Brandlesholme there is a precinct of shops providing a number of local amenities including a popular local supermarket and a number of independent merchants and retailers.
