The village historically known as Turton is now known as Chapeltown. Turton comprises of Chapeltown and a large surrounding and was an urban district until 1974. It is now divided between two local authorities, North Turton is part of the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen and South Turton is part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton.
Turton now refers to an area of approximately 70 sq km and includes the villages of Chapeltown, Turton Bottoms, Edgworth, parts of Bromley Cross and surrounding areas spreading out through lovely countryside towards Darwen, Egerton and Bury. A semi-rural area on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, the air is fresh and it is true the temperature drops a degree as you move north from Bolton.
Renowned for beautiful countryside and stunning views there are often many walkers who set out to walk the reservoirs, starting in the Jumbles country park along one side of the Wayoh reservoir and onto the Entwistle reservoir.
