BL6

BL6 covers three main areas of Bolton including Horwich, Lostock and Blackrod. Horwich is well known for its retail park and also is the home of Bolton Wanderers Football club.  The M61 provides easy access for commuters to travel out of Bolton, this junction is available near the Middlebrook Retail Park.

Horwich, Bolton

Horwich is an ever popular area of Bolton, which is particularly well served by the transport links and has been an area of significant investment and development since the 1990s with even more enhancements expected over the coming years.

There are a fantastic choice of leisure and recreational facilities with one of the most popular being Bolton Wanderers Football Club, which can host around 27,000 supporters and has previously hosted concerts by Oasis, Coldplay, Elton John and Pink.  Close by is the Middlebrook retail and leisure park which is home to a wide variety of shops including Tesco, Asda, Argos, DFS, JD Sports and a whole host of restaurants including Pizza Hut, Ask, Subway, Harvester etc. There is also a ten pin bowling alley and cinema, something for the whole family.

There is some beautiful countryside all around Horwich with country walks, reservoirs and even the historical Rivington Pike to explore.

Blackrod, Bolton

Blackrod (BL6) is classed as a civil parish of the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, It sits just over 3 miles from Wigan and just over 6 miles from Bolton. Historically the name Blackrod comes from old English ‘Bleuc Rodu’ meaning ‘dark clearing’ and was predominantly an old coal mining settlement. Cardwells have been letting and managing property in Blackrod since 1982.

Blackrod sits on an old roman settlement and also has an old bleachworks, mills and printing works to its rich past. Blackrod is situated on hilly ground near the River Douglas, west of the West Pennine Moors, It lies west of the M61 motorway, which divides it from Horwich. In the west is Arley, now the site of a golf course and to the south is Scot Lane.

Hosting its own train station, scenic countryside and great commuter links to Manchester, Preston via M61 and beyond make Blackrod a great residential commuter area. Here at Cardwells Letting Agents, we have been letting and managing properties in this area since 1982.

Blackrod has its own shops, restaurants and public watering holes. Why not sample world cuisine with an Indian meal at ‘Sagars’, an Italian treat at ‘San Marco’ or upscale gastro pub delights at ‘Suzannas’ ‘The Rivington Grill’ or ‘The Cherry Tree’.

Blackrod also has its own cricket ground, golf course, Church at St Katherine’s and many local interests such as Red Moss, a 116.6 acre (47.2 hectare) Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Lostock, Bolton

Lostock is regarded as one of Bolton’s premier residential areas.  Lostock is approximately three miles to the west of Bolton town centre and around 18 miles from Manchester city centre.  The neighbouring residential areas are Markland Hill, Heaton, Ladybridge, & Horwich/Middlebrook.  Lostock is part of the postcode prefix area BL6 and forms part of the Bolton Council local governance area.

There are some wonderful facilities in Lostock for every age group but one of the key attractions is the fantastic transport links which serve Lostock.  There is Lostock train station which we understand can serve Bolton, Manchester city centre, Preston and beyond.  There are excellent car parking facilities at the train station, so some people will drive to Lostock train station, park at the station and then use the train to commute to work.  Lostock is well served by the road network with both junctions 5 and 6 of the M61 within easy reach.  From the M61, the M60, M65, & M6 and other motorways can all be reached.  It is unusual for any part of Bolton to be so well served by the motorway network that there is a choice of two motorway junctions and access via St Peter’s Way.

There is a wonderful selection of leisure and recreational facilities in Lostock, including a choice of Golf Clubs (Old Links, Regent Park Golf Club & Bolton Golf Course), Lostock Tennis Club and Bolton Arena which offers a wonderful scope of sports facilities including gymnastics, tennis, football and sports parties.  There is also a wonderful selection of restaurants and shops including national chains at Middlebrook and independent businesses.  There are various parks and wonderful facilities for children throughout Lostock.

Below is a selection of schools in the immediate area. If you are thinking of renting your property please call Cardwells on 01204 381281.
